Describes a composite methodology for developing population estimates for Cape York Peninsula, using alternative sources of population data to those available from the Australian Bureau of Statistics; deficiencies in existing population counts; instead of a decline, projections to 2016 indicate that the Indigenous population of Cape York Peninsula will rise from 60% in 1996 to 64% in 2016; methodological issues; policy implications of these revised estimates.
