Thelma Cremin, a Chinese Australian, speaks of her upbringing in north-east Tasmania and Melbourne and amongst the Chinese communities in both places, her grandfather, Ma Mon Chin, and her grandmother, Jean Tai-Linn Gooey, as first generation migrants, Ma Mon Chin as a major figure in the Chinese tin mining community in Tasmania for the period 1870-1920, the Chinn family in Melbourne including her uncle Frank who was a prominent figure in the Chinese community from the 1920s to the 1970s, various marriage including arranged and mixed between the Chinese and Anglo-Australians.
