Copeman, an engineer, talks about his family background; impact of WWII on family and attending Queensland University in 1947 to study engineering. He then talks about the Rhodes Scholarship awarded in 1953 and his experiences at Oxford while studying economics, philosophy and politics. Copeman then discusses his working experiences in Canada; returning to Australia and working four and a half years for Zinc Corporation at Broken Hill then returning to London. He then discusses his experiences with Consolidated Goldfields at Mt Lyell; Peko-Wallsend and Robe River. Copeman then talks about BHP and its approach to industrial relations; challenges in industrial relations; Republican issues and the image of H. R. Nicholls Society. He then talks about his decision to enter politics; joining board of Sims Metals; involvement with Portman Mining Co. and involvement with Lang Hancock and family. Copeman then talks about mining industry personalities including Rod Carnegie and comments on term "Rambo of the Pilbara".
He then talks about his 6 year appointment to ANU Council; involvement with Australian Doctors Fund and Australian Farmers Fund. Copeman then talks about his children's achievements; views on privatisation and unionism; current situation and personal achievements
