An unpublished paper entitled 'Scotland, King and Empire; the early life of John Dedman, a Minister in the Australian Labor Government of the 1940s.' The paper deals with Dedman's forebears in Ayrshire, Scotland, the teaching career of James Dedman, his marriage to Mary Johnstone in 1891, John Dedman's early life in Galloway, his education at Ewart Boys High School, his service in the British Army at Gallipoli and France, his enlistment in the Indian Army in 1917, and ends with his emigration to Australia in 1922.
