The papers have been arranged into nine series, including the following: * Correspondence, 1923-1993: Cole's letters to his family in England. * Diaries, 1931-1956: Cole based his writings on the entries he made in the diaries. * Photographs, 1928?-19--?: they were taken in the Northern Territory and Papua New Guinea. * Writings: Series 4 to 8 include manuscripts, typescripts and proofs for "Spears and smoke signals" (1986), "Hell west and crooked" (1988), "The last paradise" (1990), "Crocodiles and other characters" (1992) and "Riding the wildman plains" (1992).
- Biography/History:

Writer, drover, stockman, miner, crocodile and buffalo hunter. Cole emigrated from England in 1923 and lived in Northern Territory. After World War II, he moved to Papua New Guinea to continue his crocodile hunting activities. Cole began his career as a writer at the age of 80. His published works include: "Spears and smoke signals", "Hell west and crooked", "The last paradise", "Crocodiles and other characters" and "Riding the wildman plains".
