The papers comprise the following: I. Diaries, 1939-1980: include accounts of people and events. II. Correspondence, 1944-1977: includes family letters and letters from artistic, literary and show-business friends. A large number of the letters were addressed to both Bertram and Lorraine Whiting. The correspondents include members of Whiting's and his wife's family (including Ernest Whiting, John Whiting, Mr and Mrs J. Neville Fraser and Malcolm Fraser), Bridget Bolland, Christopher Fry, Jon Stallworthy, Henry Moore, George Macbeth, Peter Finch, Robert Motherwell, Stanley Moss, John Huston, Mark Rothko, Gladys Collins and Geoffrey Fairbairn. III. Cuttings, 1944-1988: mostly containing book reviews and Whiting's obituary. IV. Other papers: include catalogues of art exhibition, photographs, poetry and prose drafts, a copy of "The poems of B.R. Whiting" and yachting logs.
- Biography/History:

Writer and diarist. Whiting joined the Australian Army in 1940 and saw active service in Burma, and became ADC to Lord Mountbatten and later R.G. Casey in India. He pursued a brief postwar career as a beekeeper in Victoria and South Australia. In 1948 Whiting married the artist Lorraine Fraser and lived in England (1952-1955) and in 1955 they moved to Italy. Whiting's book "The poems of B.R. Whiting" was published posthumously in 1991.
