Born at Mongarlowe, NSW, Radburn speaks of his parents' background; father gold prospecting and being a blacksmith at local diggings; brothers and sisters; school memories at Mongarlowe; operations of family farm including curing of bacon and ham; description of family home; family life; food; going to school for a brief time along the Clyde River; local community and industries there; leaving school, employment making eucalyptus oil, trapping rabbits; process of making eucalyptus oil, selling product, experiences whilst working; experiences driving horse teams and carting goods, the road to the coast down Clyde Mountain; looking after horses, winter clothes, local crops; memories of droughts; recreation when young, sports, dances, family picnics on Mount Budawang, Clyde Mountain region, local Chinese inhabitants; memories of Mongarlowe during his youth; church; changes to the district.
