Schooner 'Beatrice'; journals describe experiences on two coastal survey trips and include references to Aborigines on the following dates: 4 June 1864 - contact with Aborigines at Adelaide River; 25 July 1864 - description of a canoe; 7, 8, 9, 10 August 1864 contact with Aborigines at Charles Point & Escape Cliffs, killing of one Aboriginal man; 2 October 1864 - Aboriginal camp at Chambers Bay, one old man reportedly shot; 16 March 1865 - crew instructed on how to act towards Aborigines; 8 April 1865 - fire sighted, contact; 23 April 1865 - contact with Aborigines near Point Henry; 17, 18, 19 May 1865 - contact with Aborigines at Adelaide River; 27, 28 May - contact with Aborigines; 7 June 1865 - contact with Aborigines near Croker Island; 5, 6 July 1865 - contact near Beatrice Island; 1 August 1865 - killing of Alaric Ward, shepherd; 5 August 1865 - contact reported with 200 Aborigines; 30 January 1866 - contact with Aborigines off Croker Island and Darch Island, chief's name was Robert (Bob) White, accompanied by three other men and one woman named Flash Poll; 9 February 1866 - contact with Bob White, a few Aborigines are working for the Malays; 5 March 1866 - contact with Bob White; 8 March 1866 - contact with Bob White (Nullamaloo), his borther Wooloomoo and son, Woorooloo; 13 April 1866 - fighting between crew of another cutter and Aborigines; 17 April 1866 - Malays curing trepang on Entrance Island; 14, 15 June 1866 barter with Aborigines off Grant Island; 29 June to 18 July 1866 - Bob White sails on board the Beatrice; 9 July 1866 - Murracundajunga comes aboard; 11 July 1866 - Bob White brings two women and one man Mumbooroona, on board, these people never visit the seacost and have never seen a white man before; 15 July 1866 - Tom Smith and Come Back come aboard.
