Nick Enright, born in Newcastle, N.S.W. recalls his early childhood in Maitland; his period at Sydney University in 1970/1971, his involvement with Sydney University Drama Society (S.U.D.S.) and student activism; his work in Australian musical theatre for more than 30 years, since his first appearance in J.C. Williamson's production of Oliver; his reasons for wanting to visit U.S.A. and why he enrolled at the New York University School of Arts for it's two year Directing course on a grant from the Australia Council; in collaboration with a number of famous composers and playwrights having written a number of hit musicals; theatre productions; screenplays including Lorenzo's Oil (with George Miller), which won an academy award nomination; for television a number of series, eg Come in Spinner and Coral Island. In addition to his writing Enright is also an accomplished actor.
