Alice Jean Thomas, art patron, speaks about her grandparents on both sides; where they came from; the land and what they had on the land; early politics of land owners; her early background and childhood; birthdays and the presents she received; making presents for her mother and father; learning to do all the domestic chores plus sewing and crocheting; learning to make a dress in bording school; moving to Arno; relationship with one of their governesses; the governess teaching her brother music and improving her English; moving to Southport; having to catch the ferry across to the main beach; Poleman family running the ferry and the cakes they use to sell at the ferry terminal; spending pocket money to buy these cakes; going through childhood to womanhood; talks about her son being Senior Curator of the Australian National Gallery; the excitement surrounding the opening of the Gallery by Queen Elizabeth 2nd; how her son Daniel takes after her and her other son Bertram taking after his father; artists that she likes such as Martin Sharp, Brett Whiteley, Colin Lanceley, Carrington Smith, from Hobart, Sidney Nolan.
