Summary

Barron, librarian, talks about his family background; schooling at Rutherford Grammar School, Newcastle-on-Tyne and university studies. He then discusses coming to Tasmania in 1963 and his teaching experiences at a high school in Glenorch. In 1965 he accepted a National Library traineeship and came to Canberra and was assigned to Australian Reference as a reference librarian. He then describes his working experiences and the staff at the time; experiences as National Library liaison officer in London; principal librarian of ANSOL (Australian National Social Sciences Library) in 1975; impact and work of Dr Chandler; association with Canberra Public Library Service and return to National Library as principal librarian, special projects. He then talks about being in charge of the Canberra Public Library Service from 1979; other experiences within the A.C.T. Administration and his membership and involvement with professional associations.
