- "Party on shore on Quail Island, Paterson's Bay, NW coast Australia. A party of the Expedition getting water from a well they have dug in the sand. The island is a mere layer of sand piled on dark ironstone rock. The trees are Pandanus or screw palms, very common here. The leaves are long, pointed and bright green. The leaves grow in a spiral direction ..."--Handwritten in ink below image. Description continues on verso giving details of colours and additional features for working up watercolour paintings from this pencil sketch.
