Library's Palmer collection (PAL) copy is signed and inscribed in ink by the author: "The royalties on this book I gave to the blind of the war: because in this book I had written in the community of pain. Mary Gilmore Sydney 18.10.38"; also inscribed to the rear: "These lines were specially written for Philip S. Whelan ... "The hammer of the years/ Where lies the heart of man along, alone ..." Sydney 25.8.34 & 18.10.38" .

Library's second Palmer collection (PAL) copy has press clipping from "The Advocate" pasted in.

Green Angus & Robertson end papers.

Library's Whelan and SR copies have ink correction with M.G. initials on page 68, end of line 3 of the poem "Lucy".

Library's SR copy signed in ink by the author 23.6.24 and inscribed: "Signed after annotating her Australia + Cosme matter at Fed. Parliament House".

Library's Whelan copy signed in ink by the author 14.11.27 with an unpublished poem inscribed --"Sing though the song be a cry/ Better the song than to sigh ..."; also inscribed, "Dear "Tom". The above is an unpublished gem written especially for me, & presented to me with this book by the authoress, a week prior to the date on which I introduced you to her at Rod Quinn's Banjo Concert Sydney"; inscribed in pencil inside the front cover: "Philip S. Wehlan Conservation Bay Cosme"; pencil notes and underlinings on pages 23-24, 60, 63, 72 and 79; clipping dated March 12, 1929 from The Australian Woman's Mirror (page 15) with poem "Clouds" by Molly Howden [Mary Truby King] loosely inserted between pages 58-9.
