James Allen spent his early life in India and later made a career in the Australian Foreign Service. He was an authority on the Indian subcontinent and will probably be best remembered for his work in East Pakistan which later become Bangaldesh. On retiring became President of Lifeline and undertook the planning and building of Mirinjani Retirement Village, Canberra.
