Summary

Lord Bathurst's correspondence refers to appointments and land grants in Australia; transportation and free immigration; the governors Lachlan Macquarie, Sir Thomas Brisbane, Ralph Darling and George Arthur; the Reverend Samuel Marsden; the foundation of Singapore; the proposed settlement at Melville Island; and the dismissal of J. Gellibrand at Attorney-General of Van Dieman's Land in 1826.

Biography/History

Henry Bathurst, 3rd Early of Bathurst held many public offices including Secretary of State for War and the Colonies, 1812-27.
