Journals, diaries, order books, memoranda, letterbooks and family correspondence. Many of the papers refer to Anglo-French relations in Tahiti and the Sandwich Islands and to the possible annexation of the Sandwich Islands by the United States. Several letters from Francis Seymour, eldest son of Sir George Seymour, and his brother Henry Seymour, second son of Sir George, have been included. There are also letters of Sir George's nephew, Capt. Frederick Seymour, written from Australia and New Zealand in 1859-60.

Admiral Sir George Francis Seymour held, amongst other positions, the Commander-in-Chief of the Pacific Station 1844-48.
