Ian Fitchett was born in Terang, Vic. on Sept. 10, 1908 he graduated from University of Melbourne in law but switched to journalism joining the staff of Sydney's Daily Telegraph from 1937-39. He enlisted in the AIF in 1939 and from 1941 was a war correspondendent in Malaya, Burma and the Middle East. From 1947 he became the chief political correspondent for the Melbourne Age, then later the Sydney Morning Herald from 1960-70.
