All reading rooms will be closed from Christmas Day, reopening on 2 January. Professor John Legge, Australian historian, speaks about his Presbyterian family background; books he read as a child; political events of his youth; studying history at University of Melbourne; his interest in Marxism; his Master of Arts thesis on Australian administration in New Guinea; teaching history at the University of Western Australia; studying at Oxford; his research on Indonesia; and developing the history curriculum at Monash University.

Notes

Part of a collection of interviews with senior Australian historians, conducted in an attempt to define the influences upon creation of history in Australia.

Interview recorded by Associate Professor Meaney using low-grade recording equipment, and transcribed by a staff member of Sydney University.
