Vol. 1, 1835-1854, and selections from vol. 2, 1854-1855 of Chatterton's biography. Includes descriptions of his voyage to Melbourne on Rebecca, work as census enumerator, voyage on Lady Bird to Launceston, Hobart, return to Victoria, visit to diggings at "Forrest Creek" and Simpsons; hold up by bushrangers and voyage to England on SS Great Britain. Also includes letter from William Wade, 1955, Tasmania to Chatterton; photograph of Chatterton with family, 1921 and family tree.

Chatterton journeyed to Australia in 1852, visiting Adelaide, Melbourne and Tasmania before returning to England on SS Great Britain in 1855.
