Our opening hours will be changing between Tuesday 24 December 2019 and Wednesday 1 January 2020.

All reading rooms will be closed from Christmas Day, reopening on 2 January. But you’ll still be able to visit our Exhibition Galleries, our children’s holiday space, WordPlay, and Bookshop from 9am-5pm (except on Christmas Day).Bookplate café will also be open during this period, but with varied hours.

Professor Austin Gough, an Australian historian, speaks about the influence upon him of his English-Catholic background and the Great Depression; his interest in European literature and music; living and working in Coonamble and Walgett; race relations and social stratification in country New South Wales; working at Postmaster-General's Dept; studying history at Melbourne University; studying at St Antony's College, Oxford; lecturing at Warwick University; lecturing at Monash University; his approach to teaching; his achievements as Professor of History at Adelaide University; the future of European history studies in Australia; and the development of an historical consciousness in Australia.
