Dr Peacock speaks about his work in the field of plant molecular biology and the various researchers and scientists with whom he has worked on various research programs; also he talks about his years with the CSIRO Division of Plant Industry. Dr Peacock was the winner with Dr. Elizabeth Dennis of the Prime Minister's Prize for Science 2000. Working from the CSIRO Division of Plant Industry, Drs Peacock and Dennis have contributed some of the most significant concepts and findings in the field of Plant Gene Control and assisted the introduction of gene technology into plant science in Australia. Their work has influenced the future directions of Australian biology and agriculture.

Dr Jim Peacock, plant molecular geneticist was born in 1937 at Leura, N.S.W. and educated at the University of Sydney. Peacock shaped his research career through a number of postgraduate scholarships and Fellowships in Australia and USA and was appointed Senior Research Scientist at CSIRO Division of Plant Industry in 1967. He became the Head of the Division in 1978. His division is recognised internationally in the field of plant molecular biology. He is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science, The Royal Society of London, and Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering. His recent appointments include Chairman of the National Science Forum, member of the Biotechnology Consultative Group to the Biotechnology Taskforce, and a member of the Steering Committee on Genetics and Biotechnology for the International Council of Scientific Unions.
