Sir George Currie talks about his family background; childhood memories; schooling at Crossroads Junior School and Keith Grammar School; WWI and enlistment in 3rd/6th Gordon Highlanders; return to University in Aberdeen after war and some war experiences and memories. He then talks about his return to farm life; university life and meeting his future wife in geology class; courtship, marriage and move to Australia after graduation. Currie then discusses his decision to move into scientific work; going to Brisbane; early work with cotton pests; move to Canberra and Division of Entomology, CSIR; work on prickly pear; Currie cocksfoot; general development, work and personnel of CSIR. He then talks about his application for Professor in Agriculture in Perth and subsequent move to Western Australia; appointment as Vice Chancellor of University of Western Australia; achievement during his tenure and some of the personalities at the University.
Currie then provides the background to moving to New Zealand and becoming Vice Chancellor of University of New Zealand; return to Australia and taking up chairmanship of a working party to look into an independent education authority for the A.C.T. He then then talks about his involvement in the writing of "The origins of CSIRO"; work as a chairman of a committee to look into higher education in New Guinea; chairmanship of Canberra Theatre Trust, Literacy Censorship Board of Appeals and ACT Hospitals Advisory Committee; origins of interest in science; character strengths and traits and the causes of the greatest happiness and enjoyment in life and achievements of his sons and their families.
