  • The final issue of The New Forerunner was #19, April 1978. After resumption of its publication in September 1973 (#14), it was highly irregular (#15 did not appear until March 1977, for example), which was quite unsatisfactory for an alleged news zine. In its initial run (March 1969-March 1970), it was designed as the newsletter of the Sydney Science Fiction Foundation, although gradually developed a wider news role. It replaced a former SSFF newsletter called Forerunner, produced by Ron L. Clarke. The Forerunner title was later used by other SSFF members, after I had moved from Sydney to Adelaide in mid-1972, but the two were never "concurrent". When urgent news had to be reported to SSFF members, I sometimes sent out single-sheets titled New Forerunner Bulletin (#1, February 1969-#22, September 1971).
