- Summary:
-
McKee speaks about his birth in Darwin and his removal to Garden Point Mission, Melville Island as a baby. He describes living conditions at the Mission where he stayed until the age of 19, and speculates that the reason for his removal was the colour of his skin. McKee lived and worked in Darwin where he eventually married and started a family. He met his birth mother later in life and learnt that his sister had also been at the Mission but they were unaware that they were siblings. McKee gives his views on the advantages and disadvantages of removal which left him without his people's culture and language but which enabled him to be independent and manage his own life.
