Professor Sir Alec Broers more recent appointments include his position as Master of Churchill College from 1990-1996; Head of Engineering Dept., Cambridge University from 1992-1996, holding the position of Vice Chancellor since 1996. In addition to his responsibilities at Cambridge University he has served on a number of UK, EEC & NATO committees concerned with the funding and administration of science & technology. He became President of the Academy of Engineering in 2001. He is associated with inventing the electron microscope.
