Summary

The papers provide a record of Molly Bondan's life and ideas, covering her private and public life in both Indonesia and Australia. There is correspondence on the film "Indonesia calling" (1981-1983) and and Indonesian current affairs bulletin (1973-1977); Bondan's radio scripts for Radio Republic Indonesia (1952-1959), articles, translations and circular letters concerning events in Indonesia; orbituaries in both Indonesian and Australian papers, and a letter from Gareth Evans to her son on her death. There is also an annotated typescript and mock-up of Bondan's book "In love with a nation: Molly Bondan and Indonesia ...", published in 1995.

Biography/History

Mary (Molly) Warner was born in Auckland, New Zealand, in 1912 and married Mahomet Bondan in Brisbane in 1946. Indonesia became her adopted country. She actively campaigned in Australia during Indonesia's War of Independence and worked for the development of the Republic of Indonesia. She became a symbol of the Practical friendship between Australia and Indonesia.
