Bringing them home oral history project.

Summary

Hodge, an ex-boxer, forest ranger, education worker and Indigenous separated child, speaks about being removed from his parents at around the age of 6. He has no memory of his parents and little memory of the institution at Thargomindah, Qld. where he was initially placed. He was raised with the Ritchie family at Mynong Station until he was around 14 years of age. He worked as a kangaroo skinner, a station worker and a boxer for the period 1963-66. He was conscripted in 1968 and served with the SAS in Vietnam. He then worked in a variety of jobs before working with the Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody. He gives his views on the policy of removal, and the link between removal and suicide and crime.
