MS 9717 comprises Ravenscroft's biography of inventor and engineer Anthony George Maldon Michell, which includes facsimile copies of Michell's Handbook of the crankless engine (1922), and, The Michell bearing book (1916). Also, a proposal for an ABC "Ockhams razor" talk for radio, 1998, titled A most gentle and unassuming man.
The Acc08/84 instalment comprises a revised copy of Ravenscroft's biographical manuscript on A.G.M. Michell.

Anthony George Maldon Michell was the Melbourne engineer who, through his study of the physics of lubricative fluids, developed his thrust bearing for ships, the invention that revolutionized ship propulsion and made it possible for huge battleships and cruise liners to be built. Michell was awarded the James Watt International Medal of the Institution of Mechanical Engieers, London, in 1942. In 1964 he was honoured posthumously by the University of Melbourne when the Michell Hydraulics Laboratory was opened in the School of Civil Engineering.
Derek Ravenscroft was principal technical officer at the Aeronautical Research Laboratories, Defence Science and Technology Organisation, Melbourne.
