- Summary:
-
"New South Wales is the mother colony of the Australia and Port Jackson, the first British settlement, was founded in 1788 on the shores of the magnificent harbour, shown in our view. The picture above is a part of the Botanic Gardens. Sydney Harbour is famed for its beauty the wide world over. Anthony Trollope declared that he had seen "nothing to equal it in the way of land-locked scenery: it is so inexpressibly lovely." The shore line extends for several hundred miles, and there are 82 well-marked bays and 9 islands, each bay a delight to the eye, each island a jewel set in silver. Sydney itself is a fine city and surrounded by delightful suburbs."--Accompanying leaflet.
