Biography/History

Professor Sir Alec Broers was brought up and educated in Melbourne and worked as an electrical engineer with industry in America for over 20 years. He was associated with inventing the scanning electron microscope. His appointments have included Master of Churchill College, 1990-1996 and Head of Engineering Dept., Cambridge University, 1992-1996. He became Vice Chancellor of Cambridge University in 1996. He has served on a number of UK, EEC & NATO committees concerned with the funding and administration of science & technology and became President of the Academy of Engineering in 2001.
