Wesley Enoch, writer and director, was born at Brisbane on 22 September 1969. His first years were spent on Stradbroke Island, Queensland, and the family moved to Brisbane permanently in 1973. At Woodridge High School he was involved in amateur theatre and musicals, and later completed his Bachelor of Arts in Drama at Queensland University of Technology. From 1994 to 1997 he was artistic director of Kooemba Jdarra Indigenous Performing Arts Company. In 1998 he became an associate artist at the Queensland Theatre Company and in 1999 was appointed resident director at the Sydney Theatre Company. He has directed stage productions of 'Radiance', 'Murri love' and 'Up the ladder' and directed and co-wrote 'Seven stages of grieving'. In 2000, he received a Matilda Award for his book, lyrics and direction of 'The Sunshine Club' for the Queensland Theatre Company.
