Summary

MS 7559 comprises records relating to the Australian Ballet's tours, performances and operations. The collection includes tour managers', administrators' and artistic directors' records, music parts, newsletters, administrative and financial records, correspondence, media cuttings and publicity material (532 boxes).

The Acc02.205 instalment consists of further records of the Australian Ballet (123 cartons).

The Acc07.111 instalment comprises a variety of folders, bound folders, and scrapbooks containing press clippings and advertisement clippings on the company and its performances, national and overseas tours, and special events such as a tour by Margot Fonteyn. Clippings are neatly arranged in chronological order, and occasionally arranged according to city (20 bundles).

The Acc09.090 instalment includes press clippings on the Australian Ballet, organised consecutively by year from 1982-1988 and 1999-2000 (8 fol. boxes).

Biography/History

The Australian Ballet was formed in 1962 as Australia's first permanent national ballet company. Its aim is to provide permanent work for Australian dancers, to assist them in attaining international recognition and to bring to Australia guest artists of the highest international reputation. The Ballet tours nationally each year and most years internationally. The Australian Ballet Foundation is the corporate entity of the Australian Ballet.
