The papers include: papers re the St. George Expedition to South Seas, 1923-25 including letters to his wife; papers re outrigger canoes, c. 1914-20; papers re string figures from Polynesia, ca. 1920-1930; papers re Polynesian canoes, ca. 1920's-30's; working drafts of "Canoes in Micronesia"; photographs of St. George Expedition, and press cuttings, 1925; diaries and journals, 1917-40 including trips to Indonesia, New Guinea, voyage on St. George to the South Seas and Fiji, 1939-40; notebook on fishing boats and temples of Java, 1918; notes on Pacific canoes; articles on Indian ethnology; drawings of outrigger canoes and copy of journal and observations on natural history made in HMS Kingfisher by Commander J.J. Walker, 1883.
- Biography/History:

Marine biologist. Director of Fisheries Dept, 1918-24. On retirement he was appointed to the St. George Expedition to the Pacific as ethnographer. Reported to the British government on fisheries of various countries including Mauritius, Malta and Fiji.
