- Biography/History:

Founded 1736 by Argyllshire fishermen. Transferred to Greenock where manufacture of canvas and sailcloth began. In 1811 the works transferred to Port Glasgow and control passed into the hands of Campbell and Birmyre families. Amalgamated with Lanark in 1903.
