MS 9569 includes two letters, 1851 Sept 15 and 1852 Nov 11, written by James Dawson to Captain John Park. Also includes a letter to "Dorrie" by her grandmother, 2 newspaper cuttings referring to James Dawson; a photo, a sketch, a nametag, and an invitation dated 1868 Nov 5. There is also a silk lined brown leather wallet, with an embroidered insert (1 folder)

James Dawson was considered "the protector of the Aborigines in the Western District" of Victoria, and wrote books on ethnography including 'Australian Aborigines: the Languages and Customs of Several Tribes of Aborigines in the Western District of Victoria'.
