Bollins, former New South Wales President-Organiser of the Amalgamated Metal Workers' Union (Australia), speaks about his childhood during the 1920s; the Depression; living conditions; apprentice tinsmith with NSW Railways; Workers' Educational Association; early union activities ; early involvement with Communist Party; Council of Railway Shop Committees; his attitude to ALP and the Industrial Groups; becoming a union organiser in 1959; Communist Party of Australia; role of Labor Council of New South Wales; relations with other unionists; involvement with the Electricity Commission of New South Wales; becoming New South Wales President-Organiser of the Amalgamated Metal Workers' Union (Australia); the future of unionism in Australia; his achievements as a union official; factionalism and the Labor Council; arbitration; asbestos; 1949 miners' strike; Labor governments; and interesting people he met during his life.
