The collection contains letters written by IslaMarsh to her family while stationed at Great Chatwell with the Women's Land Army in Great Britain during W.W.I. Also included is material from other members of the family, notably: letters to Isla's father C.H. Chomley from Brigadier-General H.G. Elliott C.B., C.M.G., D.S.O., D.G.M., 15th Infantry Brigade A.I.F. 1917-1918; memoirs by Eliza Chomley (C.H. Chomley's mother) of her life in the Colony of Victoria from 1850, and letters from C.H. Chomley's grandfather T.T. a'Beckett. There is material on Katharine Susannah Prichard (a friend of Isla Marsh) and a folder of photographs which includes snapshots of Martin and Penleigh Boyd, Barbara Baynton (Lady Headley) and Evelyn Waugh. The collection also contains: 1) Family and general correspondence. The correspondents include Martin Boyd, Penleigh Boyd, Warrick Gould, Terry O'Neill and Laurie Taylor. Isla's son Brian was also a regular correspondent from places such as New Caledonia, Fiji and Norfolk Island. 2) Diaries 1907-1942, 1954-1984. Appointment books, letter books, account books; notebooks; notes and extracts; photographs and printed material.

Isla a'Beckett Marsh was a minor author with many connections in the field of literature. Her father was C.H. Chomley, author (with R.L. Outhwaite) and editor of the British Australian, and her cousins were Penleigh and Martin Boyd. Marsh was chaperoned on a sea-cruise by Barbara Baynton (Agda) Lady Headley.
