MS 5790 comprises Keesing's autobiographical historical notes on the First World War; both handwritten and typed letters written to his parents while he was away on active service; First World War notebooks, sketchbooks (including Italy in 1913); photographs; menus, including some at Gallipoli; travel guides and maps; and, one folder of correspondence and leaflets concerning various Jewish organisations. A 1938 fieldbook includes drawings of various Tooths hotels (2 boxes, 1 fol. box).
- Biography/History:

Architect and soldier. Gordon Samuel Keesing was born in New Zealand and educated at Auckland Grammar School. He later studied architecture with J.H. Clark in Melbourne and Kent and Budden in Sydney. In 1911 he went to New York and Paris where he was a member of the Atelier Prevot. Following the war, in 1919, he went to Gallipoli in the course of his work with the Commonwealth War Graves Commission in England. He returned to Australia in the 1920s and practised architecture in Sydney. Keesing died in Sydney in 1972. His daughter was Nancy Keesing, the Sydney poet.
