Inscription: "This box was made of the wood of Capt. Cooke's [sic] Ship Endeavour. Presented by Miss Dorothy Dip [?] November 13th 1879"--In ink on paper adhered to inside base; "Endeavour relic from Redwood Library & Athenaeum Newport, with the compliments of the Australian Consulate General, N.Y. NYNL letter 68/264 June 11"--Accompanying note.
