Moriarty speaks about his mother's Aboriginal background and his own place within his culture and his removal from Borroloola in a remote area of the Northern Territory when he was aged 4. He was taken to The Bungalow, Alice Springs before being sent by train to Sydney. He was initially placed at St. Thomas' Anglican Church Rectory in Ashfield, and then was transferred to Mulgoa Home for Boys. He describes conditions at Mulgoa. In 1949, Mulgoa was closed and the boys were shifted to St. Francis House, Adelaide. He describes living conditions at St. Francis House.
Moriarty expresses his views on the policy of removal, and discusses his involvement with the Federal Council for the Advancement of Aborigines and Torres Strait Islanders and his relationship with Charles Perkins who he met at St. Francis House. Moriarty was the first Aboriginal person to graduate from a university in South Australia and following graduation he became the first Aboriginal vocational officer with the Commonwealth Department of Labour and National Service. Later he was involved with the National Aboriginal Consultative Committee, was Chairman of the National Aboriginal Day Observance Committee for 13 years, and was Director of the South Australian Department of Aboriginal Affairs. Moriarty discusses the changes brought about by Commonwealth administration of Aboriginal affairs.
