  • 1. Conversation: Nightingale speaks of his early life in Mt. Morgan, relocating to Sydney at age 14, his job at Arnotts eventually getting a job in the bush, his family background, working life in 1926 in Central West NSW, his relocation to the Northern Territory in 1928, taking his wife and baby over the Blue Mountains in a horse-drawn cart, living on the road, taking a job digging a grave, working as a rouseabout in a shearing shed, his accident while riding, work during World War II and the state organisation of manpower, rabbit trapping at Euabalong, trapping eagles, work as a shearers' cook and as a saddler, how his wife developed agoraphobia and later died of food poisoning, his first interest in the guitar, learning slide guitar 1936-37, demonstrates steel guitar style, playing in a steel guitar band, playing at dances, the musical skills of his brother Jack, busking in Sydney, playing in a choral society with Chips Rafferty, playing on the radio, touring around N.S.W., playing acoustic guitar
