Summary

Opens with a segment of the song "Passing by" by an unknown composer and sung by Stephen Burrows. The presentation by the anonymous narrator begins with the myth and legend built around Sir Robert Menzies by his Party members; how later Prime Ministers such as Gough Whitlam tried to emulate him; the reasons for Menzies' popularity; how he got the nickname "Pig-Iron Bob" in 1939; his climb from country boy to the position of Prime Minister; his quotes from various newspaper reports; his forced resignation in 1941 and his later reinstatement in 1949; the 1961 campaign speech held at Brisbane Town Hall; the death of Sir Robert Menzies; Menzies and the Vietnam War; his racist attitudes and fascist leanings; quotes from some of his speeches.
