the Sunday Panel. 1.The heads of seven of the major industrialised nations (US, UK, West Germany, Italy, France, Canada and Japan) meet in London for an economic summit to sort out the world's problems. Margaret Thatcher will no doubt be looking for an endorsementr of her a 'fight inflation first' strategy - and a need for austerity. 2. Without reference to Caucus, Prime Minister Bob Hawke makes a statement about the strategic role of US bases in Australia, thereby guaranteeing a bitter debate at the upcoming ALP National Conference and 3. US President Ronald Reagan makes a sentimental visit to the village of Ballyporeen in County Tipperary.
