- Looseleaf atlas of contemporary and historical maps of continents, countries and cities. Includes supplement of star maps. Includestitle page, table of contents, and index.
- Originally issued in fascicles to subscribers 1829-1844. A complete atlas had between 218 and 230 maps depending on edition.
- The maps included in the atlas were sometimes revised (sometimes several times), and/or reissued by a several different publishers: Baldwin, Cradock and Joy (later Baldwin & Cradock) (1829-1841); the Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge (1838-1842); Chapman and Hall (1842-1844); and Charles Knight (1844-1846). Many issues are individually dated in imprint.
- Title page and contents of completed atlas issued by Chapman and Hall.
- Plates purchased by Charles Knight in 1846, who continued to reproduce and revise them until 1852. Plates subsequently acquired in turn by George Cox in 1852; Edward Stanford in 1856; Thomas Letts in 1877; and Mason and Payne in 1885.
- Stanford issued a new edition of the plates, in 20 parts, as the Family Atlas between 1863 and 1865.
- National Library of Australia's copy includes individual maps dated 1829 to 1844.
