Summary

The papers in MS 9000 comprise writing and publishing correspondence, correspondence with school children, drafts, synopses, maps, notes research material, cuttings, page and cover proofs, flyers and other papers relating to her novels and children's books Five times dizzy, Dancing in the Anzac deli, The house that was Eureka, The blooding, My place, and, Lucy in the leap year. Also includes papers relating to her book of short stories, The night Tolkien died, her dealings with the ABC over the series "The museum of here and now", the stage production of "Lucy in the leap year" and the stage, film and television productions of "Five times dizzy".

The Acc05.061 instalment includes papers relating to the television series "Five times dizzy" and the play "Lucy in the leap year", correspondence, 1994-1998, drafts and correspondence concerning Vigil and The house that was Eureka, notes, news items and drafts of The life and myth of Charmian Clift, and papers relating to the Educational Lending Right and Martin Johnston.

The Acc08.193 instalment comprises research material and correspondence related to Charmian Clift and George Johnston. Photographs, book drafts, proofs and related research notes, copies of reviews and newspaper articles.

Biography/History

Author. Wheatley was born in Sydney in 1949 and is known primary as an author of novels, short stories and scripts for children and teenagers. Wheatley's publications include, Five times dizzy (1982), Dancing in the Anzac deli (1984), The house that was Eureka (1985), My place (1987), and, Lucy in the leap year (1993). She also wrote a biography of Charmian Clift (2001) which won that year's Premier's reading challenge at the New South Wales Premier's History Awards. In 2006, she was a judge for these awards, and in the same year, Wheatley was the University of Canberra's May Gibbs Fellow.
