The Commonwealth Housing Commission was appointed on 19 April 1943 by Ben Chifley then the Minister for Post-War Reconstruction. The Chairman was Mr Leon O'Connor. There were five members of the commission in all. Two interim reports were issued (21 Oct 1943 and 31 Mar 1944) and the final report on 25 Aug 1944. The terms of reference were to enquire into: 1. The present housing position in Australia; and 2. The housing requirements of Australia during the post-war period.
