Dr James Gleeson, Emeritus Archbishop of Adelaide was born at Balaklava, S. Aust. 1920. He left his Adelaide appointment in 1947 as Assistant Priest at the Cathedral of St. Francis Xavier to return to Victoria to attend the Catholic Teachers Training College in preparation for his work from 1948 as Inspector of Catholic Schools in the Archdiocese of Adelaide. In 1952 he was appointed as Director of Catholic Education in the Archdiocese of Adelaide. Dr Gleeson was admitted as a foundation member and Fellow of the Australian College of Education in 1967. In 1971 he was appointed to the position of Catholic Archbishop of Adelaide till his resignation for health reasons in 1985.
