Reid, , naturalist, author, teacher, talks about his family background; education at Coburg West Primary School and Benalla West State School; impact of WWII; memories of childhood in Gordon; experiences at Scotch College; work with Melbourne Metropolitan Board of Works followed by Teachers College at the age of 22. He then talks about teaching experiences at Pakenham Consolidated School in 1953; move to Colac West Primary School as an art and craft teacher; launch of Colac Field Naturalists Club in 1956 and tackling gull banding as a project using children as the workforce. Reid then then talks about his involvement in the Somers School Camp as a nature studies officer of the Victorian Education Dept. during the early 1960s. From 1970 he began working at the Australian Conservation Foundation. Reid then talks about the INSPECT program; Gould League; work with "Survival" series; publications such as "Outdoor environmental games" and "The net".
He also talks about strategies for environmental education such as the use of fantasy, theatre and role play. Reid discusses the foundation of the Australian Association for Environmental Education in 1980; association with the property Graceburn; details of bird banding; publications "Gum leaves and geckoes" and "Banksias and bilbies" and the establishment of timelines for the seasons in Australia.
