- Synopsis of content: This is a guidebook to Australian culture and society written by a public relations officer with the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO). The guidebook is aimed at those with business and cultural dealings with Australia, who wish to avoid the typical reaction of cultural shock when encountering a new country. The opening sections present the author’s views on the Australia character. He emphasises the role of mateship, and social organisation as seen in the workforce and social clubs. He also notes the importance of the past relationship between the two countries, especially during the war, and the effect it had in the 1970s.
