Correspondence, 1851-1854, between W.A. Sanford and H.A. Sanford, and with their family in England. Some of the letters describe conditions in Fremantle. Letters, 1851-1855 received by W.A. Sanford in his position as Colonial Secretary. Other correspondents include: Governor Charles Fitzgerald, W. Cowan, Thomas Brown, Reverend W. B. Brown, W. Waller Clifton, H. Campfield, W. Harris, Ellen Layton, Jane Tiphett and Mr. Rochester. The letters deal with the convicts, Aborigines, immigration and religion.
- Biography/History:

William Ayshford Sanford (1812-1902) was Colonial Secretary of Western Australia, 1851-1855. His brother, Henry Ayshford Sanford, b. 1822, was a Captain in the 43rd Regiment and from 1853 a landholder at Port Gregory.
